Prepare

My idea: I am going to be creating a fashion instagram page.

Moodboard 1: This is to help me identify where I need to go and what shots I would like to see in my project and where I could go with my overall product.

Artist research for this part of the project – I decided to research into a photographer that really inspires me as a photographer. His name is Alex Millichamp (@shotbychamp), who is a photographer and filmmaker. He has been a creator since a very young age, always trying to tackle some new art form (which was his favourite past time growing up). He went from acting to dancing, photography to free running but he would consistently be finding new ways to challenge himself.

He trained in dancing and has worked with multiple of different professional companies, such as Northern Ballet company, BBC and Princess Cruises to name a few of them. Despite his years of experience & training, his real passion for creativity has always been behind the camera and working behind the scene of photography and films. After shifting his career to photography, he has worked consistently as a freelancer in the industry for the past 3 years. From working with companies, such as Venture, Flip-Out and Rolling Pictures, to his most recent adventures of being Roadtrip’s (UK’s current biggest boyband) full-time content creator. His goals are to push the boundaries of storytelling, be it through photos/film, and to make his audience feel something as they consume his work. He wants to inspire and educate, but most importantly he wants to have fun in the process.

Primary research that I discovered in my pitch – which was just to valid my ideas even further. With the pitch, I followed on with some question and here are the results from the questionnaire

  1. Do you like my initial idea? If not, why?
  • Yes, I like you idea, will turnout out very well
  • Sure
  • Yes, could be interesting
  • Yes x9
  • Yes, try to be creative with how you use the smoke.

From these results, people have said that they like my initial idea.

2. Target audience

  • Yes, maybe even younger e.g. 14 and up could appeal to a younger age – it look ‘cool’ & ‘trendy’
  • People who like bright colours
  • Yes x8
  • Sure yes
  • Anywhere from aged 16-19 – I think all young people (college to university)

According to audience feedback, my target audience was spot on.

3. What do you think the overall theme of my product is?

  • Fashion but using smoke bombs
  • Visual
  • Fashion
  • Fashion smoke? I don’t know
  • Fashion + colour?
  • Not sure
  • colourful
  • Not sure? Focus on smoke grenades?
  • I like the consistency – and conveying mental health
  • Decent
  • smoke x2
  • Smoke bombs only because we haven’t seen the clothes yet.

My theme that the questionnaire revealed was fashion (which is now changing to lifestyle), colour and smoke.

4. Existing products

  • In fashion magazine/ instagram page
  • Nope x9
  • Stuff on pinterest
  • Other brands? – clothing or fashion

According to my feedback, no one knew what to say for my existing products.

5. Colours

  • Pink x6
  • Purple x3
  • Red x4
  • Blue x5
  • Dark colour
  • Yellow x2
  • Ones that contrast the clothing or are complimented (see the colour wheel)
  • As many as possible
  • Different
  • Black

Most people think I should use the colours Pink and Blue. With some saying that I should either purple, red or yellow.

6. Preferred logo (I created 3 logos so then I can start my project with a sort of an idea however as my plan has now changed from my pitch I need to create new logos)

  • Logo 1 x2
  • Logo 2 x3
  • Logo 3 x8
  • Runway should be more centred
  • Grenade should be the right way round
  • Don’t think the font is good for the audience demographic

My preferred logo was logo 3 so I will be doing something like that.

7. Anything else…

Maybe the clothing can be paint splattered inspired or something bright.

New route for my project

During this time of me writing this, we did our pitches and so instead of a fashion brand, I am going to be doing a lifestyle blog (+ instagram account) instead of creating fashion brand. So here is the moodboard for this:

I did some artist research on different blogger and one that particularly stood out to me was Hannah Gale, who is a 27-year-old ex-digital editor and journalist, turned full-time blogger, blogger & general social media animal. On her blog, she describe herself as ‘because where’s the fun in producing content for someone else, when you can just produce content on your own site, eh?’

She has owned her blog (HannahGale.co.uk) since her Kingston Uni days, but only really delved into the blogging world head-first in 2014. Since then she has written nostalgic lists about growing up in the noughts, shared the deepest, darkest corners of her brain in posts about mental health, and covered everything from fave ASOS buys to beauty hauls to tasty recipes. Her blog includes everything and anything that is relevant to your average British twenty-something girl. It’s a place to come when you’re feeling lost inside you own head. A place for inspiration, motivation, and mostly, as a place to remind you that you’re absolutely not alone.

Different blog ideas

http://hannahgale.co.uk – her blog gives of a vibe of happiness and joy that makes the reader want to read the post. They layout of her blog is pretty eye-catching and is a blog post that I have and will be looking at closely to form ideas for my blog.

Even though it is less colourful then Hannah Gales blog – there is some work on the blogs that I am looking forward to a blog like this and think that what I am going to take from this is the context of what she has written to get ideas for what I could write.

This blog is beautifully laid out and will be something that I want to look into recreating some of the layout of this blog.

This blog is very colourful and the colour palettes are the colour palettes that I want to use in my blog.

This blog has some amazing context to it and I want to have my blog to this standard and make it really good like this. However the colour palette looks very simple however, simplicity is key in this blog.
